Current Press Release

Dear Friends & Neighbors,

Hope this finds each of you enjoying the return of Spring to our part of the world. "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood," to quote Fred Rogers. And it's time to let you know the schedule of Mustard Seed Project events/meetings for April! I have attached the April Task Group meeting flyer, if you are able and inclined to post it.

Friday, April 11th, our Transportation group will meet. We plan to have some results of our recent survey available for discussion, and we ask you to please join us if you have any interest in a community-wide response to the transportation needs of our seniors and others. There has been discussion about various groups possibly acquiring vans and working to meet transportation needs. We invite you to come and bring us up to date on your efforts and plans. If we can keep each other informed we can avoid duplicating efforts, and better serve the community. This Task Group can be a forum for that sharing of information and coordination of effort.

Thursday, April 17th, at our Health and Wellness Task Group meeting, Rosalyn Alber, the "Kinship Navigator" with the Relatives Raising Children program, will speak about the needs of older adults who find themselves unexpectedly back in the role of parenting children, and the resources available to support them. Our discussion of caregivers and their needs and support systems will also continue.

Friday, April 25th, our Housing Options for Aging in Place group will meet again. Last time our discussion ran long and we didn't get to watch the 20 minute video on The Greenhouse Project, one of the models that informs our work related to senior housing on the Key Peninsula. We will watch the video first on the 25th, then continue the envisioning of the ideal affordable assisted living residence for this community.

All meetings are held in the Brones Room of the Key Center Library, at 10 a.m. We sincerely invite you to join us at any or all of these gatherings. They provide the opportunity to share information, explore possibilities and to build an elder-friendly community right here on the Key Peninsula. The more people come together at these meetings, the more creative and stimulating our discussions become. That's when things start to happen! Please pass the invitation on to anyone you think might like to come.

Remember, too, that our volunteers at the Key Senior Information Center are ready and waiting to provide information on programs and services available to older adults in this community. It's free and confidential. We have many brochures and flyers on a wide variety of topics, as well as internet access to resources. Our volunteers staff the Center 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday. They can be reached by phone at 253-884-9814. Messages can be left at that number and calls will be returned by the next volunteer on duty.

We look forward to seeing you soon. Thanks very much!
